Managing transition at Texas Health Resources Foundation

In early 2021, during the coronavirus pandemic, Texas Health Resources Foundation (THRF) was without a president and a regional vice president. M. Gale was already managing campaigns when Barclay Berdan, CEO of Texas Health Resources, asked us to step in and help lead the foundation while they searched for new executives.

Our perspective:

Because we’d worked with THRF for two years already, we had a great relationship with the organization and its CEO. Our approach started with acknowledging that transition management can be tough – but we were here to make things as smooth as possible.

Two challenges we met head on were reorganizing the Foundation’s team to support more projects and managing the pandemic and how it affected typical fundraising practices. Throughout this process, the M. Gale team was totally dedicated to making things as simple and successful as possible for our partner.

How we solved the challenge:

With M. Gale managing this transition, Texas Health Resources Foundation had a dedicated and capable team to support its employees, enabling them to continue their work while maintaining volunteer leadership and community trust.

  • During this time period, no one resigned or left the organization.

  • M. Gale helped the team with its workload while collaborating and communicating well.

  • M. Gale helped the fundraising teams continue their work and provided additional training to support this effort.

  • M. Gale advised and participated in the new executive search by providing insight and knowledge for the profile of the next leader.

  • M. Gale helped educate the new leader on the opportunities and challenges ahead.

  • M. Gale supported critically important volunteer leadership for the campaign.

Our client’s outcome:

The M Gale team stepped in to help us transition the Texas Health Resources Foundation leadership during a crucial time in health care history, the coronavirus pandemic. They quickly helped build trust among the entire Foundation team and advanced our collective work in providing necessary philanthropic support for Texas Health. This type of leadership allowed for continued productivity among our team at a time when we and the community needed us most.
