Presbyterian Night Shelter

Empowering the team at Presbyterian Night Shelter

Presbyterian Night Shelter is a haven for Fort Worth’s homeless community. After closing out a highly successful fundraising campaign with M. Gale, the development team lost staff when the long-term Vice President of Development relocated to another state. Such a big staffing change could have derailed their goals of taking the fundraising team to a new level.

Our perspective:

M. Gale believes people are a nonprofit organization’s most valuable asset – especially when it comes to professional fundraisers, who can be challenging to find.  Knowing the effect that leadership turnover can have on the organization, M. Gale and Presbyterian Night Shelter thoughtfully approached how to attract a new leader and ensure their success.

How we solved the challenge:

  • M. Gale helped build a strong process to bring qualified candidates to the Presbyterian Night Shelter team, using their existing HR systems and creating new recruitment tools.

  • M. Gale identified the core responsibilities and qualifications needed for the Vice President of Development role, updated the job description, and developed a strong potential candidate pool. We helped leadership assess how candidates’ skills, experience, and personality matched up with the open position.

  • Through the process, Presbyterian Night Shelter identified and ultimately hired an existing team member for the role.

  • The well-planned and executed process allowed for leadership and team engagement in the hire, which shone a light on the potential to hire within the organization. Not only was this decision supported by all stakeholders – it also had great value to their organizational culture and relationship building.

  • For the first year, M. Gale also provided individual and group check-in conversations with leadership and the newly promoted Vice President of Development.

Our client’s outcome:

The Presbyterian Night Shelter has utilized the services of M. Gale on several projects, and they have always been successful. M. Gale provided a development department evaluation, two successful capital campaigns raising $18 million, a professional talent partnership for executive recruitment & coaching, and assistance from a development department perspective on a merger. M. Gale brings such a high level of expertise and success, I trust them to help us make the right decisions so that we can be successful.
